STEVE Kean insists Blackburn Rovers’ bravery and courage can keep them in the Premier League – after insisting survival is their only focus.

The under fire Rovers boss was adamant no one was getting carried away with Saturday’s 2-0 win over Norwich City as they gave them-selves a Premier League lifeline.

A goal in each half from Mauro Formica and Junior Hoilett saw Rovers gain ground on relegation rivals Bolton and Wigan, although QPR’s win at Tottenham later in the evening leaves them still three points from safety.

Ewood Park reverberated with the loudest chants against owners Venky’s yet, with all stands voicing their disgust with the club’s regime during the second half.

Fans also marched in protest before the game but boss Kean, who was also victim to the fans’ anger, said all the focus among his squad was on keeping Rovers in the Premier League.

Kean said: “We had one focus. All I want to say is that the focus was for Blackburn Rovers to win and get three points.

“If you look at my players the dressing room isn’t bouncing because it’s one part of a four-part plan to get us out of this and we’re focused.

“We had one focus today. It was pretty simple. That was to win and get three points. The players were very focussed.

“That was the main goal and we’ve done it so we’re absolutely delighted. It’s given us something. Our target for the last four games was to take something from each one. From the first minute we really asked questions of them.”

The Rovers boss was also quick to hail his squad’s spirit after several players, including the recalled Gael Givet, played through the pain barrier.

He also said Steven Nzonzi was dropped to the substitutes bench due to ‘fatigue’ as the season’s efforts catch up with his squad.

Kean said: “You’ve got to show bravery and courage and that you back each other up and more important than that you’ve got to show you’re a group of players that doesn’t want to come off the pitch with injuries.

“Gael was taking an injection, so was Bradley, Junior’s injured, Yakubu’s injured and none of them want to come off the pitch.

“There were six or seven candidates for man-of-the-match. Givet was outstanding. That was no surprise to me “Wherever he plays he’s a total warrior. He had a dead leg and the doc gave him an injection but he just didn’t want to come off the pitch.

“Nzonzi came out of the team because he’s played every single game apart from the two when he was suspended. Unfortunately for him it’s caught up with him a little bit.”

Rovers face a tough trip to White Hart Lane next Sunday, before a visit of relegation rivals Wigan and then a final day trip to Stamford Bridge.

Kean said: “I said when we looked like we were almost there a couple of weeks ago that there will always be twists and turns.

“All we can do is pick up points from every game and hope other teams stumble. If we can play like that we’ve got a chance.

“There are people on their last legs, playing with injuries, lots of fatigue. But they just didn’t want to come off. That’s why we got the points today and made it look a little bit more comfortable.”
