STEVE Kean has hit out at the “mischief makers” after insisting his Blackburn Rovers squad is completely united as they enter their Premier League last chance saloon.

Gael Givet returns to the fold for this afternoon’s crucial visit of Norwich City after Kean dismissed growing rumours of training ground bust ups this week.

A defiant Kean has conceded Rovers “must” beat the Canaries this afternoon to stand any chance of pulling off ‘the Great Escape’ but retains belief they can salvage their Premier League status.

He has rubbished all suggestions there is disharmony among his struggling squad, including rumours suggesting a row involving Steven Nzonzi, and insists they will all be together this afternoon.

He said: “There has not been one fight, there has not been one raised voice. There has not been one mishap, it has been a tremendous week, there has been absolutely nothing.

“It is laughable. Where that comes from is very mischievous and if people are trying to put false stories out there and as soon as you question them they run for the hills.

“Lets be honest it has not been the first time this season when things are meant to have happened that haven’t happened. So all we can do is if something is meant to happened, say we have had nothing but a good week.

“There has not been one bad tackle, not one raised word. All the lads have been 100 percent behind every session we have done. There has not been one bad player all week.

“Was I meant to be in Munich on Tuesday? I wasn’t. I was meant to be here on Wednesday as well but I wasn’t. I don’t know where else I am supposed to have been.

“I said four or five weeks a big part of any club is that everyone who is here wants to be here. If someone puts in a transfer request or is trying to generate a move, that can make things feel different.

“But you can come out and watch an open session though and in two minutes you would see what the atmosphere is like.”

Givet’s absence at the Liberty Stadium last week proved costly, with Bradley Orr forced to play as a makeshift centre back, after Kean deemed the Frenchman to not be in the right frame of mind.

Givet is now expected to partner Scott Dann in the heart of the defence this afternoon after a “five minute conversation” sorted the issue this week.

“It wasn’t difficult to sort out at all,” said Kean. “We had a five minute conversation and he has been tremendous all week. You want as many players available and as many players trying to get into the side as possible.

“I can only do what I think is right. There was no argument , it was a conversation and I made the decision. I have had another conversation with him and he has been top class all week.

“He has always been top notch at the club and has been brilliant all week. There was no apology needed from me or from Gael. We just had a chat and it has gone now and he is back involved.

“I think this is a game we have to win and it is not only one game we need to win, we need to win more than one game.

It starts on Saturday.

“I think we can do it. It makes it more difficult when other teams get results but we did it last season and we did it by showing we were together and that is going to be a big part.

“We have got a great atmosphere here and enough good players and enough characters from within the camp to dig us out of the position we are in.”
