BURNLEY boss Eddie Howe has admitted that his side’s play-off challenge is at an end after this afternoon’s 1-1 draw at home to Coventry City.

Howe had said before the match that his side needed maximum points from their remaining games to give themselves a chance of making the top six.

Charlie Austin’s header put them ahead at half time but Clive Platt levelled for the relegation-threatened Sky Blues after the interval, leaving Burnley eight points behind the play-off places with only three games left.

“I’d imagine it’s pretty much all over now,” Howe said.

“We needed to win all of our games and we haven’t done that.

“It was a scrappy game and we never had control of the game like we wanted.

“I don’t think we played as well as we have done in recent weeks, so that’s a disappointment to us.

“We scored a great goal against the run of play and felt it would give us the platform to kick on, but it didn’t really happen.

“It was never going to be an easy game, a side fighting for their lives, but from our point of view we never got to grips with it and bossed it like we felt we should.”
