A solid performance from Blackburn was soon put to bed by visitors Manchester United as the Reds pulled off two late goals to earn the win.

Whilst Blackburn were timid for much of the first half, a string of brilliant chances could have seen the home side in the lead. But it was not to be as Blackburn now sit on the verge of another battle in the drop-zone.

First-half saw Blackburn quickly dominated by a United side looking to open up a five-point buffer against title rivals Man City.

But with the three points now vital to a Blackburn side only out of the relegation zone on goals scored Rovers weren’t going to lie back.

Whilst United dictated much of early play Blackburn pulled off some brilliant efforts.

Ever the acrobat, Junior Hoilett looked to weave his way into the United box on a rare break out of the Blackburn half. One effort looked set to take Rovers into the lead as the young Canadian released an explosive shot bound for the top corner. But with David De Gea making the save the scores stayed level.

Blackburn’s own keeper Paul Robinson had things a little easier after a corner from Wayne Rooney found its way to the feet of Jonny Evans. The ensuing tap-in from the Irishman was easily foiled to prevent United opening a gap.

For much of the half Blackburn seemed to allow the Red Devils to settle into things. But with few solid chances from the away side so far Blackburn’s risk was playing their way for now.

With play picking up just before the break, Blackburn pulled off a flurry of great chances; first from Marcus Olsson and then from Hanley, once again forcing De Gea into acrobatics.

Come half-time Blackburn definitely needed to pick up their pace and impose on United more if they were to combat the Reds’ well-known knack to grind out results in the second half.

As the second half commenced Blackburn began to up the ante as play traded ends with much more freedom.

Freekicks from both sides were fended off by their keepers as both Rooney and Pedersen respectively looked to tip the score in their sides favour.

With Rovers now breaking their midfield confinement, the home side looked to have the opener after a back-pass from Nzonzi was rocketed in by Pedersen; only for the linesman to judge the initial pass to have crossed the line.

Whilst Rovers were far from the laid-back possession of the first-half, United were beginning to creep back into the home side’s half as they looked for a chance to open the score.

But with the likes of Junior Hoilett and Yakubu keeping the Reds on their toes, United were on the alert for a quick counter.

As play ran into the final ten minutes things looked liked they could go either way.

However, this was quickly put to an end when United’s talismanic winger Antonio Valencia scored first blood with a curling shot from the edge of the box. With the shot curling across goal, Paul Robinson just couldn’t reach far enough to prevent it going in.

Blackburn’s chances grew even slimmer only five minutes later, as substitute Ashley Young peeled off his defender to fire off a shot into the bottom corner to add to the Red Devils’ tally five minutes from time.

With only a matter of minutes to play Blackburn were looking downtrodden as the visitors once again held possession to see themselves off with all three points.

Although Blackburn arguably had the stronger chances first-half, with David De Gea the only thing stopping a potential 2-0 lead, United’s habit of converting second-half chances was enough to see off the competition from Blackburn
