DANIEL Battrick has won his sixth major kick boxing title and he is still only 13-years-old.

The talented teen regained the English full contact title after beating the Midlands champion and current holder of the belt Ryan Bailey in five one-sided rounds.

The Accrington-born ace has now won four English and two British titles – but this one probably meant the most.

The Mount Carmel High School pupil had to relinquish his titles after he injured his arm while competing against a former European champion in Stacksteads in October.

Battrick was ringside when Bailey take his belt but following eight hard weeks of training, he regained the title.

“Daniel was gutted when he had to give up his titles,” said dad Billy who also coaches his son at Fit2Fight Kick Boxing Club in Accrington. He said he was prepared to fight with one arm but we really needed him to rest and recover.

“It feels like he has waited a long time to regain his belt but he has trained harder than ever over the last eight weeks.”

Battrick’s superioty in the ring – Bailey could not handle his spinning kicks and side kicks – meant he was declared unanimous points winner.

Now he is hoping to challenge the Scottish champion for the British title.

However, he is not the only national champion in the Battrick household as younger sister Keely also won a British title.

The nine-year-old St Oswald’s Primary School pupil won gold at the recent national championships in Manchester.

“Keely is very tall for her age and very aggressive and uses that to her advantage,” added Battrick Senior. “She usually fights heavier opponents and wins.”

The siblings, who are sponsored by Hurns Catering in Accrington, will now be looking to add to their collection of honours.
