BURNLEY have put themselves back on course for a return to winning ways thanks to a 2-0 half-time lead at the Riverside.

Jay Rodriguez struck from a Ross Wallace corner in the sixth minute, while Kieran Trippier made their first half dominance count with his second goal in five games.

The right back missed last week's FA Cup game at Norwich but returned straight after serving a one-match ban to make an instant impact.

When a headed clearance made its way out to him 35 yards, Trippier celebrated signing a three-and-a-half year deal with the Clarets by looping the ball back over goalkeeper Connor Ripley on his Championship debut.

Burnley, who boast a run of six wins from their seven previous league games, have defended well to keep Boro at bay, dealing with balls into the box and looking dangerous on the break.
