BLACKBURN Rovers boss Steve Kean has hailed his heroic young guns but admits the club needs at least four new signings next month.

A battling 1-1 draw at Anfield temporarily eased some of the pressure on Kean's shoulders as his youthful side showed there is fight left in their Premier League relegation battle.

Seventeen-year-old Adam Henley cleared off the line in the dying seconds on his full debut while reserve goalkeeper Mark Bunn produced several saves to ensure a vital point, as Kean’s injury-ravaged squad battled valiantly.

Rovers remain bottom of the league ahead of Saturday’s trip to Old Trafford and, with five of yesterday’s team involved in last season’s reserve cup final, Kean knows the importance of adding experience in January.

Owners Venky’s are understood to not yet have committed a figure to the transfer pot available, as discussions continue over finances and Kean’s own future, but the Rovers is confident the squad will be significantly strengthened.

Kean said: “The transfer window is important and it is important that our medical team can weave their magic and get the lads out of the treatment room.

“On top of what we have got Junior Hoilett has gone off with a tight hamstring, David Dunn has got a bit of tightness but hopefully both will be okay. The medical team will have to earn their money now.

“We will be active as early as we can to strengthen because we certainly need bodies in the defensive area. I think we need four bodies at least and we need them quickly and if we can get them together with the lads back from injury then I am sure we can climb the table quickly.

“You put the young lads in and they are doing their best, and today they were excellent, but if we can get established players into the club immediately then that gives everyone a good lift.”

Kean has come under fire from all quarters over the past couple of weeks having seen his side slump to the bottom of the league with just two league wins all season.

But, despite their precarious league position, Kean insists yesterday’s Anfield showing proved the Ewood camp was still together.

He said: “The togetherness has always been there for everyone to see. If anyone said we would not be together then they would be pulling the wools over their own eyes.

“We are a young group and a tight group and we don’t stop. We will keep fighting and we know, having not got the results we need, we need to get on with it and improve.

“Young Adam Henley did well on his full debut. It is not only young Adam, there are five lads who came into the side and they played in the reserve cup final last season.

“We have a very young side because of all the defensive injuries we have got. Young Adam has come in and looked edgy early on but settled down and got a crucial clearance off the line late on.”

Meanwhile Kean said Jason Roberts had been left out of the squad due to a tight quad.
