BACUP Borough made a sad exit from this year's FA Vase competition, but only have themselves to blame.

Despite dictating play for the entire game, the visitors failed to turn their dominance into goals due to conceding possession when it mattered and players making the wrong decision.

Two early chances fell to Bacup's Bryan Herbert and Dean Repullo, but it was the home side that took the lead from the penalty spot.

The penalty was awarded following a bad return ball from Herbert to Shepherd.

He lost the ball but keeper Billy Carrington took possession.

Frustratingly, Herbert had impeded the striker for the spot kick to be awarded and it was converted with ease.

On 24 minutes it was all square, resulting from a Bacup corner, which was flicked on by Carroll for Lee Oldham to head the equaliser into the net.

In the second half, Bacup again had plenty of possession and got behind the Dinnington defence when Shepherd put the ball just over the bar.

Then, following good work by Oldham, Shepherd struck the Dinnington Town Bar.

However Dinnington's luck was in when Cartledge got space on Shepherd before poking the ball in, with keeper Billy Carrington seeing the shot late and just missing tipping the ball.
