STEVE Kean has revealed that Junior Hoilett sustained only concussion after a late challenge from Fulham keeper Mark Schwarzer in today's 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage.

Hoilett had to be stretchered off in the closing stages of the game after beating Schwarzer to an aerial challenge.

The game was held up for several minutes while medical staff put Hoilett in a neck brace as a precaution.

But Hoilett was back on his feet after the game and Rovers think he did not sustain serious injury.

"He's got three or four stitches on the side of his head and was out for a few minutes, so he's concussed," Kean said.

"It was quite a nasty challenge. I was expecting him to send him off.

"When I spoke to (referee) Howard [Webb], he felt that even if Hoilett had got the first touch, [Stephen] Kelly was coming round.

"At the time, and at the pace it happened, I thought it would be a red card.

"Schwarzer thought it might result in a goal, so he went all out for it. Hoilett, too.

"It was just a good professional attempt from each to score or prevent a goal."

Christopher Samba was taken off at half-time due to a back injury to be replaced by Martin Olsson, who was left on the bench after picking up a knock in action for Sweden on Tuesday.

David Dunn, who overcame a hamstring injury to feature, was also withdrawn with a tight calf.

Kean said: “Chris Samba’s back locked at half time but Gael Givet does what Gael does, he goes in (at centre back) and he becomes a warrior.

“We stuck Martin Olsson at left-back and he was actually carrying a knock from international duty, so we’ve been in the wars today and we’ve dug something out.

“That bodes well.”
