JAY Rodriguez is staying at Burnley after Southampton failed in renewed efforts to tempt the striker away from Turf Moor today.
The Saints last month had a £4.5million bid for the Burnley-born forward turned down and were told that further offers would not be entertained.
But I understand the newly promoted Championship club returned on deadline day, improving their initial approach by around £500,000.
However, Burnley reiterated the message that Rodriguez was not for sale while the player indicated he wanted to stay with his hometown team.
Rodriguez was given the number nine shirt to start the season, and scored his first senior hat-trick in a 6-3 Carling Cup first round win over Burton Albion.
