CLITHEROE picked up their first win of the season after surviving a late fightback from Garforth Town.

The Blues opened up a 2-0 lead thanks to two goals in the space of 10 minutes by Alex Brees either side of half time.

Ashley Parillon appeared to have wrapped up a morale-boosting win for Carl Garner’s side with a goal on the hour before Garforth struck back to set up a nervy finale.

Clitheroe, who enjoyed a fine season last year, have had a torrid start to the new campaign, suffering successive defeats to Wakefield, Bamber Bridge, Trafford and, most recently Precot Cables.

But that run ended at Shawbridge thanks largely to the efforst of former QEGS pupil Brees.

The winger opened the scoring on 38 minutes then added a second three minutes after the restart.

Former Englnad schoolboy international Parillon added a third on 60 minutes but Town hit back immediately through Matthew Mathers on 62 minutes.

And when Jamie Price made it 3-2 on 77 minutes, the Blues held on for victory.
