YOUNG fighters at Sandygate Amateur Boxing Club had been taking part in pre-season training with a difference.

Coach Nik Tucker decided to take the youngsters out of the ring to taste a wide range of different sports.

Coach Nik Tucker had boxers from the Burnley club swimming, playing badminton, table-tennis, dodge-ball, basketball – as well as completing a gruelling Pendle-Hill dash.

The training was finished off with a Dads vs Lads boxing session “The lads loved it. Although it was fun it also worked on hand/eye coordination and stamina with the Pendle Hill run being a real tester.” said Tucker after the 1,827 ft summit run.

Clitheroe Boxer Alfie Wardle, aged 15, reached the peak first with the rest not far off.

Burnley Councils Sports Development Officer Darren Wright was at hand to help the lads at the St Peters Centre with the events He said: “The boxers were great, really throwing themselves into each activities although the coach seemed to get a bit of pay-back at dodge-ball.”

Burnley's oldest running boxing club now look forward to the coming season.
