LANCASHIRE Wolverines are chasing national glory on two fronts following a dramatic weekend of American Football.

The Blackburn-based club has reach the national semi finals in both the senior and colts competitions – the first time the club has achieved that feat.

The Wolverines beat Essex Spartans while the Colts overcame Tamworth Phoenix at Blackburn Rugby Club.

Both games were equally as tense, the Colts going 0-0 in to the final quarter but winning thanks to three late touchdowns.

Incredibly, the Wolverines won just 7-0 with their touchdown and conversion coming in the opening quarter. They started well and running back, Chris Littler, hurdled over the top of a Essex defense player from three yards out for a touchdown. The extra point was scored by kicker Danny Morton.

But then it became a totally defensive game – the Wolverines picking six interceptions and sacking the Essex quarter back eight times.

Essex nearly won it at the death and it took a game saving tackle from Eden Quigley while Alex Dunn from Chorley managed to strip the ball from the Spartans quarter back to regain possession and hold on to win.

The Wolverines now play South Wales Warriors at Blackburn RUFC on Sunday for a place in the BritBowl finals at Crystal Palace.

Head coach Danny Bowles said: “This is the first time that both the colts and seniors have reached the semi finals of the national play-offs at the same time.

“The confidence of the team is at an all time high.”
