BURNLEY Tennis Club has put in another marathon effort after completing 24 hours of tennis – with fun both on and off the courts.

For the fourth year, junior and senior members were joined by friends and family for the knock around the clock.

The annual event was to raise funds for the charity, Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).

The day long tournament – which included junior tie breaks, an adult fun competition and karaoke and barbecue – was held in memory of former player and coach Vicki Taylor who died suddenly in 2006.

Vicki unexpectedly collapsed while playing tennis at Clitheroe Tennis Club at the age of just 48-years-old. She turned 49 while in hospital but sadly passed away in the November.

Her husband Iain coordinated the event which raised more than £400 – taking the total up to £2,500 over the last four years.

More than 80 adults and youngsters took part in the day and night activities.

The children played 57 tie breaks – which would have been more had it not been for the rain – while exper-ience and inexperien-ced players teamed up for an adults doubles competitor.

That was won by Ryan Whitehead and Daniel Hargreaves who was once coached by Vicki.

The evening event saw players down their rackets and pick up microphones for the kareoke and disco.

The event ran from 9am Satur-day to 9am Sunday morning – with Burnley players in league action at 10am.

“It was a great day for a worthy cause,” said Iain. “We were all pretty tired. Especially as we were playing soon after.

“I played with my daughter Sarah Jane which was pretty special as it was the first Taylor mixed team since myself and Vicki played together.”

And they proved to be the perfect match winning all their sets against Darwen A.
