BURNLEY manager Eddie Howe has been forced back into the market to boost his attacking options before the transfer window closes at 11pm tomorrow.

New signing Danny Ings joining fellow striker Martin Paterson for a lengthy spell in the treatment room after suffering knee cartilage damage in only his second training session.

The Clarets are working hard to bring in wide man Junior Stanislas from West Ham, after securing Zavon Hines from Upton Park on a two-year deal earlier this month.

“We’ve lost some big players,” said the Burnley boss.

“Martin Paterson’s been a huge loss to us as everyone knows.

"Michael Duff came in and did really well for a game and unfortunately we lose him now for four to six weeks.

“We’re so thin on the ground body wise. Our squad (on Saturday) is what it is.

"Those are the 16 players who are fit, so we do need some new additions, we do need to add a little more depth.”

Of the possibility of a few busy days before the deadline, Howe added: “Hopefully because we do need to add a couple.”

While the search for additions continues, Howe will hope to keep the rest of his squad intact before the cut-off point.

Wade Elliott is believed to be a target for Championship rivals Nottingham Forest.

Meanwhile Southampton have already had a £4.5million offer rejected for Jay Rodriguez rejected, whose productive partnership with Charlie Austin is another factor in Burnley’s firm stance against parting with their homegrown striker.

“Charlie and Jay Rod worked really well together,” said Howe in reference to Saturday’s 2-1 win at Pride Park, in which Austin scored both goals.

“I’m delighted for Charlie that he continues his good goalscoring form.

“He has a knack of being in the right place and he’s a fantastic finisher, we see that every day in training.

"He’s still young and he’s getting better and better so they are really positive signs for him.

“It’s a blossoming partnership between him and Jay, who worked extremely hard and just lacked a little bit of luck in front of goal.”
