BLACKBURN with Darwen Gymnastics Club picked up a clutch of medals at a top North West competition – with many youngsters competing for the first time.
The club achieved five first places and two seconds at the North West Low Tariff Acrobatic Gymnastics finals. Head coach Gemma Heggarty was delighted for the club’s youngsters.
She said: “For most of our gymnasts it was there first experience of competition and they all performed brilliantly winning many medals.”
Kevin Vinrod and Abilgail Birtwell won the Mixed Pairs (15 tariff) while Oscar Smith and Naomi Shaw picked up gold in the Mixed Pairs (20 tariff).
In the Women’s Pairs (25 tariff), Hannah Brown and Isabel Merrick clinched gold with Andrew Mares and Emily Birtwell doing likewise in the Mixed Pairs (25 tariff). And there was also a first place for Victoria Kay and Holly Jarrold in the Grade One event.
Mollie Holden and Jasmine Neild, Category B (25 tariff), and Maddie Elliot and Izabel Forrest Category B (20 tariff) both finished second.
Ria Barton and Holly Walker, Chloe Simm and Megan Astin, Hannah Simm and Naomi Shaw all gave excellent performances just narrowly missing out on medal positions.
