JASON Roberts insists Venky’s have shown complete faith in the Blackburn Rovers squad ahead of the new Premier League season – and hopes to repay the club’s owners with an opening day win against Wolves.

The 33-year-old striker was among three Rovers players that travelled to India, following their Premier League Asia Trophy campaign in Hong Kong, to discuss Blackburn’s future with Venky’s.

Along with fellow seasoned campaigners, Morten Gamst Pedersen and Ryan Nelsen, Roberts was encouraged by the plans and assurances from the poultry giants, despite criticism from sections of Rovers supporters and the football world in general towards their handling of the Ewood Park club.

He believes an ‘exciting era’ now lies in wait and, with the advent of two signings in the shape of David Goodwillie and Radosav Petrovic, is determined to help Rovers reach a top 10 finish this season.

“It was fantastic for me to be able to sit down with the owners, talk about their plans and have them show that faith in the boys that they want to hear what we have to say,” said Roberts.

“Everything they said to us made me feel this club is going to progressing.

“It is obviously going to be progressing their way because they run the club, but from the players’ point of view, we are all 100 per cent behind them and look forward to what could be an exciting era.

“All we can talk about as players is the way they have treated us.

"The way they have treated us has been top drawer. Obviously players will be coming in and things will be changing.

He added: “You take pre-season with a pinch of salt because it is all for nothing if we don’t start well on Saturday.

"Of course, we want to start well, we want to get off with a win and we want to get the fans behind us from the start.”
