A Sam Hayes goal in a late rally by Colne was not enough to give them a share of the points at Winsford.

The Reds got off to a disastrous start when they fell behind to a Ryan Stewart free kick after only two minutes.

And they conceded a second goal after 19 minutes when Andy Hirst robbed the hesitant Reds defence to lay on a chance for Dean McGregor to fire home from close range.

Tactical changes at half time gave Colne the advantage after the break but the referee refused them a penalty after 57 minutes when Hayes’ shot clearly struck an outstretched arm in the home penalty area. But the Reds pulled a goal back after 81 minutes when Matt Tindall broke clear on the right and his low cross was swept home from close range by Hayes.

Colne pushed forward in the closing stages looking for an equaliser but Winsford hit them on the break after 89 minutes when Aiden Haughton headed in a cross at the far post to seal a win for the home side.
