BLACKBURN Rovers boss Steve Kean believes new signing David Goodwillie will give his side the X factor this season.

Goodwillie joined Rovers earlier this week for a fee of around £2.8m, with the 22-year-old signing a four-year deal at Ewood Park.

The striker was named as the SPL’s young player of the year last season after impressing for Dundee United and Kean is confident he will be a hit south of the border.

Goodwillie is set to make his debut in this afternoon’s friendly against Kilmarnock, kick-off 3pm, after Rovers received international clearance.

“He’s a very good player, another good young player and that is what we are trying to add,” said Kean.

“He’s a player that scores all types of goals – headers, left foot, right foot, tap-ins, which are always the best for the strikers to score.

“He’s an exciting young player and I think it was time for him to move from Scotland.

“He was young player of the year up there, scoring 18 goals which is something we can certainly do with.

“I think he’ll give us a different dimension. He’s bubbly, he’s a natural finisher and I think he’ll be a great addition to the already up and coming young ones.”
