JONATHAN Fielding says the main focus for his Ramsbottom outfit is retaining Lancashire League title – but admits he still wants to claim a second piece of silverware for the season tonight.

Fielding’s Ramsbottom host Nelson at Acre Bottom in the final of the Twenty20 competition – and they go into the final as holders.

And after they lifted the Ron Singleton Colne Trophy on the eve of the season a win tonight would leave them on course for a clean sweep as they are well poised in the league and are also in the final of the Worsley Cup.

But Fielding refuses to get carried away and said: “The main trophy that everyone at the club wants is the league title, that’s the aim at the start of the season, that’s the tophy you want.

“But that is not to say we don’t want the others.”

Ramsbottom lifted the league title for the first time in 18 years last year as Fielding made a triumphant return to his hometown club.

And they were red-hot favourites to retain the crown this year – but they lost to Lowerhouse and Haslingden in May and last month Nelson were victorious in the league at Acre Bottom.

That saw Rammy drop from the top but Fielding said: “There are some good teams in this league and it doesn’t do you any harm to lose a couple.

“We bounced back from that and now we know what we have to do and we can look to kick on again in the league.

“And it is a good few weeks coming up for us.

“We go to Church in the final of the Worsley Cup next month and that will be a brilliant day and the T20 final will be a cracking atmosphere as well.

“Nelson are a good side but we are the holders and we want to win the trophy again – but it will be a hard game against a good side.”

The Acre Bottom showdown pits the two most effective T20 teams together – and also sees best friends collide as Ramsbottom bowler Andy Hakin locks horns with his mate, Nelson’s Sam Halstead.

Former Nelson man Hakin had been a regular in the Ramsbottom team until he damaged ankle ligaments earlier this year.

But now fit again he leads the attack in the T20 and Worsley Cup ties and will look to put one over his old mates this evening.

And there is another clash between old team-mates as Ramsbottom’s young spinner Tim Le Breton was part of the Clitheroe side that won the Ribblesdale League last season under the captaincy on Nelson opening batsman Peter Dibb.
