CHORLEY teen sensation Emily Taylor is proving the leading light for England in the European girls’ team championship at Is Molas, Sardinia.
The team completed the 36-hole strokeplay qualifying on three-over par.
They were three ahead of second-placed Spain and 27 shots clear of their first round opponents Italy, who are the hosts and eighth qualifiers.
And it was 16-year-old Taylor calling the shots for her country, carding a bogey-free, five-under 67 on Wednesday, adding to her opening 70 to give her the distinction of topping the individual table at seven-under par.
“It was a fantastic performance,” said Pat Smillie, England’s national junior coach, on Taylor.
Taylor, a student at St Michael’s High School in Chorley, is now aiming to help England further in the matchplay stage of the championship n Taylor is due to take part in pre-qualifying for the Women’s British Open at The Berkshire on Monday.
Pleasington’s Nikki Foster is East Lancashire’s only other entrant heading to pre-qualifying.
