BURNLEY’S England ace James Anderson will make a rare appearance for Lancashire today – and can’t wait to step out into the heat of Roses battle against Yorkshire at Liverpool this morning.

With Lancashire setting the early pace in the County Championship, having won three out of four games so far, and Yorkshire just starting to find form, the War of the Roses has a mouth-watering appearance.

And the rare home appearance of Anderson – who played in the Red Rose win over Warwickshire two weeks ago – is seen as the perfect preparation for the heat of next week’s Test battle with Sri Lanka.

Anderson has taken 25 wickets against the old enemy and said: “I remember one of my first games for Lancashire was a Roses match, and they’re great games to play in.

“They are usually a great atmosphere, and I’m sure that will be no different at Liverpool with a big crowd. It will be hard-fought, for sure.”

Lancashire are favourites ahead of the game with Yorkshire hit by injuries.

They are missing England star Tim Bresnan and have called up Ex-Headingley wicketkeeper Simon Guy, who has spent the past two years playing club cricket.
