BLACKBURN Rovers are ready to gamble on the fitness of Chris Samba as they look to give their inspirational skipper every possible chance of making Sunday’s survival showdown.

The giant defender limped out of the weekend’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United late on with a tight hamstring and groin, and is understood to be a big doubt for the crucial trip to Molineux.

Samba has proved a key figure in the last couple of months with a number of big performances and will be closely monitored over the next few days as they look to patch him up for the Premier League finale.

Junior Hoilett was also withdrawn in the second half on Sunday with a tight hamstring, while Jermaine Jones was taken off due to a lack of energy, but both are expected to be fine for the trip to Wolves.

Samba’s fitness is understood to be more of a worry but, with their Premier League status at stake, both player and the club are ready to take whatever measures needed to see him leading from the front.

The extra day’s rest this week has boosted his chances of making the clash, with Rovers ready to wait until as late as possible before deciding on his selection.

Rovers travel to the Midlands knowing anything but victory could see them relegated into the Championship, although it would take an unlikely sequence of results to condemn them to the drop.

Boss Steve Kean, said: “Chris Samba first of all felt his groin but wanted to stay on and then his hamstring tightened up.

"I think Junior and Jermaine will be okay but the question mark is Chris.

“We know what that big fella is all about and if there is any chance he can play he will play, he will be dying to get out there.

“You take the risks in games like this and of course if we can take a risk on him then we will.”
