PETER Dibb says he is ready and raring to go ahead of his belated Lancashire League debut – and reckons his Nelson bow can’t come in a better game than the Pendle derby with Colne today.

Nelson new boy Dibb, who made the winter switch to Seedhill after leading Clitheroe to the Ribblesdale League title last season, was ready and raring to go when he suffered a broken finger on the eve of the campaign.

But now the 24-year-old is fully fit and in line to open the batting today– and keen to make up for lost time.

“I really can’t wait to get going,” said Dibb. “I have hated being out. I am not the best watcher of games at the best of times so it has been really frustrating.

“I had trained all winter and was itching to get going for the first match of the season against Todmorden so the injury came at a really bad time.

“I was gutted with it.

“With missing the first five games I know I have a lot of catching up to do – I need to make up for lost time and there is no better time to start than in the derby against Colne.

“All the lads have been talking about this game and how intense it is – so it’s a good one to start in.”

Dibb has been powerless to prevent Nelson slumping to their worst start to a Lancashire League campaign for 33 years as they have lost all their five games to date.

But he believes Tom Lord’s men can turn the corner – and turn the corner against their closest and biggest rivals.

“It is a bad start,” he said. “No-one expected it to be honest and we want to put it right.

“It will be a good game in front of a good crowd and there is plenty at stake “We are a good team but our batting has let us down somewhat so far.

“That is a surprise because on paper we have a strong batting line-up – but we still think there is enough time to turn this around.

“We want to get that first win and then go on a run – and we are still looking at winning some silverware.”
