IVY Hotel came from behind to win the Birtwistle Cup thanks to a wonderful team goal and a stunning individual effort.

Peter Hart supplied the finishing touch to a sweeping four-man move before Kamal Elfetesi added the fire works with a superb individual effort.

In between, Shaun Watson also netted with a goal which was down to shear determination.

And all this after Rishton had taken an early second half lead.

Rishton had edged a cagey first half – skipper Jamie Palmer closest to scoring with a header against the bar – and took a deserved lead soon after the restart when the impressive Jason Ash-worth rose to head home Dan Hodson’s inviting free kick.

But Ivy’s reply was swift and precise.

First, Carl Egan was denied a run in on goal thanks to a fine covering tackle by Luke McVar-ish after good work by Paul Egan and Hart. However, the next Ivy move was sweeping and clinical.

Paul Egan played a nice ball to Danny Stafford – and early replacement for Ryan Wales – who found overlapping full back Scott Kelly. He rolled the ball in to the path of Hart whose pace took him beyond the Rishton defence before showing great calmness to finish.

From 1-0 down they were soon 2-1 up but this was more down to Watson’s determination and hesitation in the Rishton rearguard.

Hart’s throw-in found Watson who then reacted first to his own header to poke the ball home beyond Calvin Westwell in the Rishton goal.

Rishton came back and Liam Hutchinson had one goalbound effort blocked.

At the other end, Kamal Elfetesi should have extended Ivy’s lead but screwed horribly wide after being teed up by Watson.

But he was to make amends in devastating fashion soon after.

Graham Anderson, pushed up from defence to midfield, chipped the ball in to the area and Elfetesi met it with a flying volley that gave Westwell no chance and completed a wonderful turnaround for Ivy to go on and lift the Birtwistle Cup.
