PARK take on Church Town tonight looking to complete an Accrington Combination clean sweep after wrecking Crown Rovers’ own double hopes.

The two title rivals met in the Walmsley Cup final both with intentions of finishing as Combination top dogs.

But it was Park who ran out comfortable winners to remain on course for the treble after Crown blew their own Division One title hopes after drawing 2-2 with Hapton at the weekend.

Park took an early lead soon when ex-Great Harwood player, Neil Kennedy (left), floated in an inviting free kick that Ashley Floyd headed home.

Park were causing all sorts of problems from set pieces and another Kennedy free kick saw Mick Pattern crash a shot against the bar from a Floyd flick-on.

Floyd was then the set piece menace, firing in two corners that saw Dave Anwar’s header cleared off the line before Kennedy glanced another effort wide.

But Crown’s leveller came courtesy of a free kick of their own, partially cleared to Paul Wright who played the ball in to the path of Joseph Wrigley who swivelled and struck home the sweetest of volleys.

But Park regained the lead early in the second half.

The increasingly influential Kennedy drilled in a free kick that fellow former Harwood player Warren Peake rose to head home.

The lively Scott Noon then got the goal his hard work deserved, racing clear to score but only at the second attempt after Edward Tomlinson had saved his initial effort.

Crown had chances to get back in the game but Park defender Kevin Thompson pulled off a fine last-ditch tackle to deny John Spencer then Haworth headed Kieron Demaine’s free kick wide.

At the other end, Noone charged down a clearance by the keeper which fell to sub Daz Rogers who volley in to an unguarded goal.

Noon smacked another shot against the post before another sub, Mark Whalley, completed the scoring with a late goal.

Park will now be looking to compete the treble when they face Church in the Calvert Cup final at the Crown Ground tonight.
