JAY Rodriguez has given Burnley a half-time lead with his 15th goal of the season, making him the Clarets' joint top leading scorer so far.

The striker, who was the overwhelming choice for player of the season at the supporters' clubs' presentation night this week, is now level with Chris Eagles, with just 45 minutes of their season remaining.

Cardiff City's campaign has been extended as Dave Jones' side went into this game in third place.

But it was Burnley who have looked every inch the play-off side, rather than the Bluebirds, who missed out on the opportunity to push for automatic promotion through Monday night's home defeat to Middlesbrough.

Craig Bellamy has looked lively for the visitors, but has so far been thwarted by Brian Jensen, who inspired the break which brought about the opening goal in the 13th minute.

Jensen saved from Jason Koumas and moved the ball on to Andre Bikey, who picked out Rodriguez's run down the right channel with an excellent forward pass, and the striker finished well across Stephen Bywater.

Ross Wallace and Rodriguez both had chances to add to build on their lead before the break, but were thwarted by Cardiff's rearguard.
