Pendle Forest fastman Jason Bateman was back to winning ways – just weeks after having his bikes stolen.

Jason clocked an unbeaten 21 minute 09 second ride on a borrowed bike in the 10-mile event at Keswick, which was part of the Nelson Wheelers weekend of racing.

In the Sunday 25-miler on the same roads, Port Sunlight’s Andy Wilkinson was out on his own with 52 minutes 06 seconds to add to his other Nelson Wheeler’s win recently in the Circuit of the Dales.

Not far away on the nine-mile climb of Shap Fell from Kendal, 59-year-old Peter Greenwood, of Clayton Velo, beat many younger riders in finishing a superb second with 29 minutes 49 seconds for second place, which was only beaten by roadman Tejvan Pettinger’s 28-27.

With the lighter evenings now with us it is possible for East Lancashire cyclists to compete three times midweek on our local roads.

Pendle Forest have already started their Thursday evening time trials from Thornton-in-Craven, and this week the Rossendale Road Club have begun their Tuesday evening 10 mile events near Hapton, starting on the A679 at Bentley Wood one mile west of Rose Grove.

Next Wednesday, the North Lancashire Road Club will start their Wednesday evening 10-mile events with signing on at the Edisford car park near Clitheroe baths.

Cycling club members are welcome in all these events and normally also non-club members who can have a go at racing in the ‘Come and Try It’ system of Cycling Time Trials.

All these events start at 7pm but be there in good time to sign on.

Last Thursday, the Pendle Forest ‘10’ was won by John Hopkinson of Airdale RT in 23m 41s followed by Ian Duckworth (PF 24-39), Hamish Graham (Dublin 24-44) and Craig Holden (PF 24-55).
