Michel Salgado is excited about being part of Blackburn Rovers’ future but knows Premier League safety has to be secured before he can start to dream.

Rovers’ Spaniard has become a firm fans’ favourite at Ewood Park since signing from Real Madrid at the start of last season and has already committed himself to the club for one more campaign at least.

The 35-year-old has already won the disabled supporters player of the year award this time round as well as being a strong contender for the other end of season awards, and he is confident there are more good times just around the corner.

Salgado is hoping to shake off a knee injury in time for Saturday’s crucial trip to West Ham, with Rovers just three points clear of the drop zone, admitting a win could allow the club to start looking forward.

He said: “I am committed to the team and the club. It is an important moment for the club.

“It is a new takeover, so many changes, that is life, everything takes time.

“It is an important moment because the first thing we need to be is safe and the fans need to trust us, they need to trust the club.

"If we are safe we can enjoy the last two games and then for the future hopefully we have a good squad and some money to build up a team to dream.

"I am still dreaming about doing something better with this club, but the first thing we need to realise is we have to get three points.”
