LEE Kearsley scored a magnificent 140 and spinner Declan Fitzhenry claimed five wickets as Whalley created a Ramsbottom Cup upset on Sunday as they stunned league leaders Edenfield at Gincroft Lane.
Batting first, Richard Palmer’s men recovered from 121-4 with 21 overs to go to post 284-7 with Kearsley a hero as smoke from the Belmont moorland blaze wafting across the ground.
Then the normally free-scoring Edenfield were hurried out for 207 with Fitzhenry claiming his five-for.
Ribblesdale Wanderers got over their Saturday mauling at the hands of Baxenden with a win over Oswaldtwistle Immanuel at New Lane and Clitheroe upset Barnoldswick at Chatburn Road.
The home side were all out for 150 – but Barnoldswick could only manage 126.
Cup holders Baxenden got home by three wickets against Settle, while Great Harwood won a thriller at The Cliffe as they beat Padiham.
Stuart Maher’s men racked up 235-9 from their overs but Padiham gave it a real go, finishing just three runs short of a memorable win.
And league leaders Read were in top form as they beat bottom side Cherry Tree at Whalley Road.
Read posted a mammoth 291-5 with Cherry Tree 189-4 at the end.
