SINGLE seater star Ian Parkington has every right to be feeling just champion.

Because the 40-year-old Barrowford businessman has finished top of his class in the North West Formula Ford Championship.

And Parkington, who races a Reynard in the pre-90 class, claimed the title in style, taking pole position and fastest lap on his way to victory at the Anglesey circuit.

"It was a great weekend at Anglesey, typically North West Formula Ford. There was a full grid for both races with plenty of nose-to-tail, no-quarter-given racing," said Ian, who is managing director of Ballpark Engineering in Barrowford.

"I'm very happy, we set out at the start of the season with the sole aim of winning class D and that's what we achieved,"

"It's gone better than we dared hoped for, and there's still two more races to go.

The statistics show that Parkington completely demolished the opposition, taking all the points for pole, fastest lap and a class win in all but one race so far.

But that doesn't mean the newly-crowned champion is taking his foot of the pedal.

"We are lying fourth overall in the pre-90 class, and if we continue in the same form then we can finish third, which would be a brilliant end to the championship." said Ian, who is sponsored by Ballpark Engineering and Manchester bakers GH Sheldon.

His next appearance is at Oulton Park for the non-championship Moose Trophy, for Formula Ford cars, on September 9.
