AT JUST 17 years of age, Lancashire's Hayley Parkinson faces the test of her short career so far on Bank Holiday Monday in the rough and tumble, high-speed world of Formula One Stock Car Racing.

Not only is Hayley unique in being the only female racer in the sport, but Monday is Hayley's first appearance in a major brand new Championship, the Under 25s Championship of Great Britain.

Hayley, who lives near Preston, will be driving a seven litre 600bhp machine - with up to 30 other drivers.

Hayley is joined by other drivers of a similar age who have moved into the sport from the Junior Ministox with Oxford's Timmy Aldridge, also 17, and Chesterfield's Daniel Johnson looking to be hot on her heels but many of the other entrants will have plenty of track experience.

The event is part of a massive Championship event at Belle Vue Stadium, which includes the last chance to qualify for the World Championships, just two drivers will go through from a special sudden death shoot-out race to the final next month.
