BLACKBURN Rovers boss Steve Kean believes Leon Osman's opening goal proved the pivotal moment - after insisting his side were excellent in the first half.

Kean watched his side extend their winless run to 10 games with a weak 2-0 defeat at Everton but was adamant there were some positives to take from the performance.

Rovers had to wait until the 90th minute for their first shot on target, as goals from Osman and Leighton Baines secured a comfortable win for an injury-ravaged Everton.

Kean said: "I don't think it was a worrying performance. I thought in the first half we were excellent.

"Second half they were better than us but we controlled all aspects of the first half.

"We conceded a sloppy goal from a short corner and the overall performance was two different halves.

"We were by far the better before the half time and they shaded it in the second half.

"I think whoever was going to get the first goal was in the box seat and that was disappointing."

“I don’t think it was a worrying performance and I thought in the first half we were excellent,” he said.

“It was two totally different halves. We were by far the better team in the first and they were better in the second.

“We didn’t test the goalkeeper and we said that at half time. We thought we could exploit their high line but when the goal comes in that changes the whole outlook of the game.

“The heads did drop for a few minutes. I thought we tried to get back in the game but they got a penalty and we had to chase it a little bit.

“We were looking for a little bit more of an aggressive response. I think when we went a goal behind against Blackpool we were angry.

“To concede in the manner in which we did. We’d had a warning and it was a poor goal to give away. They had taken a short corner before.

"We were down for a few minutes, but then we came back again and I thought we were on the up when they got their penalty.

“We stuck another striker on and got a chance through Morten and if that had gone in, it would have been an interesting last few minutes.”
