With nine of the 20 qualifying events for the Lakes and Lancashire Sporting Courses Competition (SPOCO) completed Burnley’s Peter Greenwood of the Clayton Velo is heading the overall table.

Greenwood has accumulated 818 points after riding in seven of these events with the last being the Nelson Wheelers Circuit of the Dales.

In second place comes Rossendale Road Club’s Martin Tonge who has clocked up 791 points also from seven rides.

Rossendale’s Paul Warrener – SPOCO Series co-ordinator – is fourth with 745 points and Martyn Smithson of Clayton Velo fifth with 716.

Although Burnley’s Jimmy Wright has won three events outright he has only ridden five as yet and sits in ninth with 596 points. The SPOCO Series finishes on July 2.

Wright and Greenwood travelled to Keswick on Sunday to compete in the Rudy Project Series which is a similar series to our SPOCO but at national level.

Wright took fourth in the Elite category while Greenwood was second on Veteran‘s Target Time.

On Saturday, Burnley- based Simon Wilson of the CyclePremier-Metalek squad took second in the 10 mile at Garstang with an excellent 20 minute 35 seconds, just 24 seconds behind James Gullen of the Higher Walton-based Wallis Cycles team.

Steven Burke returned from World Championships to grass roots when he won the first Pendle Forest mid-week event of the season over 6.25 miles in 14 minutes 23 seconds. Second was Craig Holden (15-24) then Hamish Graham (15-28) and Carl Pawson (16-05).

n Pendle Forest’s Jason Bateman had a recent break-in that cost him a Pinarello Dogma Road Bike, a Pinarello Time Trial Bike plus a pair of Zipp racing wheels.
