TWO Burnley football hooligans have admitted conspiracy to commit violent disorder.

They had been on a stag do in the town and travelled to Blackburn to clash with rival supporters.

Peter Bulcock, 49, of Dunlin Close, Quedgeley, Gloucestershire, and Steven Gornall, 49, of Skipton Road, Steeton, were part of the notorious Clarets ‘Suicide Squad’ which attempted to clash with Rovers fans in October 2009.

Both defendants had sacked their legal teams ahead of the multiple sentencing hearing in January.

They attempted to change their guilty pleas to not guilty.

But their applications were refused at Preston Sessions House by trial judge Graham Knowles QC.

They will be sentenced next month.

Gornall’s son Joshua, 22, of Northview, Eastburn, Yorkshire, had been on his stag do on the day of the derby game, joined by his dad, and friends Bulcock and Sean Widdop, 24, from Manchester.

Gornall junior and Widdop were jailed for two years and three months and three-and-a-half years respectively in January.

Both were given eight-year banning orders.

During sentencing, Gornall junior’s barrister said his client was ‘following in his father’s footsteps’ of football violence.

Police said Steven Gornall is already on a football banning order and is likely to get an extended ban.

A huge police operation prevented the group of Burnley fans clashing with Rovers fans gathered at the Station pub, Cherry Tree, Blackburn.

At the time, Assistant Chief Constable Andy Cooke described the incident as ‘pre-arranged disorder’ bet-ween ‘halfwits’ and ‘remnants of a bygone age’.
