TAKE a bow Football Association bosses - for once you are on the right line.

If anything the two game ban handed down to Wayne Rooney is a tad on the generous side - but at least the FA has taken action against the Manchester United player for his foul-mouthed rant down a camera after scoring a hat-trick against West Ham at the weekend.

Of course there is now an outpouring of sympathy for Rooney from many members of the press, this being Man United and the like, because you can’t possibly criticise anyone who plays for Alex Ferguson for fear of getting a good wigging from the football Knight.

Some of the tripe written and spoken since the sanction was made defies logic. Of course they trot out the line that Rooney was excited and the heat of the emotion of the Premier League battle this can happen.

That’s garbage. When Mark Noble scored both his penalties he ran towards a camera...funnily enough, Noble - in a team in the midst of a battle for Premier League survival - managed to avoid swearing his head off.

Some people even say this is a society issue. That may be so. But Rooney, like people in society, should be sanctioned for their bad behaviour.

Come on Wayne, you like to think you are a man’s man - take this punishment like a man, learn your lesson and keep your mouth shut.
