JAY Rodriguez has warned Norwich City to expect a more ruthless Burnley as they prepare for a re-match tomorrow.

The Clarets were on course for their first away win of the season thanks to two Martin Paterson goals in seven first-half minutes at Carrow Road in November.

The Canaries bit back after the break to snatch a late point.

But Rodriguez believes Burnley have learned from their harsh lesson, and are now better equipped to make sure of the points.

“We’re organised,” said the Burnley-born striker, “And we are always going to be positive and work hard to get the win.

“We’ve been unlucky with a few results earlier in the season. We did extremely well to get into the positions we did only to let it slip.”

But defeat at Doncaster on Tuesday night – Eddie Howe’s first since taking charge – has provided the Clarets with an even greater incentive to prove their mettle tomorrow.

“It was frustrating on Tuesday. I thought we had the momentum in the second half and was just waiting for us to score,” said the 21-year-old.

“We were unlucky with the goal we conceded. I thought we worked hard and we’d been positive.

“It just wasn’t meant to be, but hopefully we can make it right tomorrow.”

Rodriguez, who has been deployed out wide and up front under both Brian Laws and Howe, and has six goals so far, will certainly have an extra spring in his step after receiving his first call-up to the England Under 21 squad.

The former Barrowford Celtic star was tipped to make the cut for November’s clash with Germany, which they lost 2-0 in Wiesbaden. But manager Stuart Pearce has kept tabs on him since, and Rodriguez will meet up with the squad on Sunday to travel to Empoli for Tuesday’s game against Italy.

“I didn’t really think too much about it the first time around. Since then I’ve just kept trying to improve myself and I’m really happy with the news,” he said.

“I’ll be with great players and great staff, so it will be a good all-round experience.

“It was a bit of a shock, but it’s all good.

“I try to play the best I can every game for Burnley, and hopefully it’s shown.

“It’s a great boost to my confidence to be picked.”

But Clarets’ assistant manager Jason Tindall believes it is no more than the youngster deserves.

“In any walk of life you only get out what you put in, you have to work hard to achieve success. Jay has done that,” he said.

“You’ve only got to see the work-rate he puts into every game he plays.

“We’re all delighted that he’s got the call-up.

“He’s done a great job since we’ve been here. He works his socks off and that’s all you can ask of any player.

“He’s a great lad, he just gets on with his work and any job that you give him and he’s a great lad to have around.”

He added: “Jay’s a terrific player and he’s done very well for Burnley Football Club. It’s a great achievement for him to be called up and we wish him all the best when he goes away with the squad,” he said.

“I’m sure he’ll do well, and we know he’ll continue to do well for the football club here.”

Meanwhile, Tindall has told the Clarets not to dwell on Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat at Doncaster.

“Sometimes in football you have those days when things don’t happen for you,” he said.

“We didn’t play as well as we can play but the lads gave everything they had, they worked extremely hard and on another night we would have got something from the game.

“I didn’t think there was too much in it.

“But that’s now gone and we just look forward to (tomorrow) and be positive about it.

“Norwich are a very good side and it should be an entertaining game.

“They’re a big side and a very good side. They’re in the position they are in the positive they are in the table because they deserve to be.

"Their form suggests that, they’ve got a good away record and they’re going to come here full of confidence.

“It’s going to be a very tough game.

“But we’re a very good side ourselves with some excellent players and we’re more than a match for anybody.”
