STEVE Kean has hailed Blackburn Rovers’ latest teen sensation after claiming Jason Lowe kept Chelsea star Frank Lampard quiet.

Nineteen-year-old Lowe was handed his Premier League debut as a first half substitute for David Dunn at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, and his boss insists he emerged with great credit.

Second-half goals from Branislav Ivanovic and Nicolas Anelka gave the under-pressure Blues a less than convincing 2-0 win as Rovers were made to pay for slack defending at set-plays.

Lowe has joined the likes of Josh Morris, Grant Hanley and Phil Jones to play in the Premier League for Rovers in their teens this season, with 16-year-old Robbie Cotton close to his full debut.

Lowe was a surprise starter in last weekend’s FA Cup victory over Queens Park Rangers and, having come through the club’s youth system, Kean is excited about his future.

He said: “Jason Lowe made his debut last week against QPR and did really well and I had no doubts about sticking him on.

“He did well to settle in, didn’t look like a rabbit in the headlights, far from it.

"I thought he did well, got on the ball and I thought by the end of the game Frank Lampard slightly fell out of the game because he done such a good defensive job on him.”
