BLACKBURN gained revenge over Cumbrian sides but made harder work of it than they should have.

Having lost on their travels to Whitehaven, Furness and Workington in the first half of the season, Burn finally got the own back on a side who had to make the long trip south.

Burn had to weather a good start and finish from the North Lancs/Cumbria rivals as they claimed a bonus point win.

Flanker Rob Parker crossed for the opening try, converted by Paul Bleasdale, but Workington hit back to lead 13-7 at the break.

Blackburn regained the initiative early after the restart with Bleasdale converting Craig Diggle’s try to lead 14-13.

Number eight Jordan Pearson then ran in two tries – one of which was converted by Bleasdale – before a late try and extras from the visitors set up an nervy end.

“The scoreline flattered them because we had about 70 per cent of the possession,” said coach John Morgan.

“We always seemed to be in control but when they scored that late try we were thinking that if we weren’t careful, we could go and lose.

“But in the end, it was a good result and a good performance after nearly a month without a game.”
