CHORLEY boxer Michael Jennings hopes Frank Warren will stick to his promise of a rematch with Kell Brook – even though the promoter now wants Brook to face Amir Khan.

Jennings suffered a fifth-round stoppage against Sheffield’s Brook in a world title eliminator in September after sustaining a cut above his eye but was immediately told by Warren that he would be given a rematch because of the unsatisfactory way in which the fight ended.

That has not yet been forthcoming, with Brook now lined up to face Mike Jones for the interim WBO world welterweight title and Warren saying this week that he has also made a multi-million dollar offer to Khan for a fight with the 24-year-old.

But Khan looks likely to ignore that offer and Brook’s fight with Jones may not take place until the summer, with the American due for a rematch with Jesus Soto Karass in February.

That could leave Brook, who demolished Ghanaian Philip Kotey in two rounds in Liverpool on December 11, looking for another opponent and Jennings wants a rematch.

“I went to the show in Liverpool mainly to speak to Frank Warren about fights,” said the 31-year-old, who has now fully recovered from his eye injury.

“I watched Brook’s fight and no disrespect to the guy he was fighting but he was poor. I could have done better than that with my eyes closed.

“I’ve got a meeting in London on January 4 to find out the plans for me next, whether that will be a rematch with Brook or a different route.

“I will probably want a warm-up fight and then to fight Brook. Frank said straight after the Brook fight, ‘Don’t worry, we’ll get you a rematch’.

“It’s an easy fight to make and if he is as good as he says he is, he will fight me.

“If it’s not Brook, I was supposed to be fighting John O’Donnell for the British title but he’s now fighting Craig Watson, so maybe I could fight the winner or challenge for the Commonwealth title against Denton Vassell.

“I still believe I’m the best domestically. It’s not the end of the line by any means.”
