ACCRINGTON Stanley look set to discuss a deal to make Blackburn RUFC their permanent training base next month after using the venue for the first time last week.

Stanley have been unhappy with their training facilities for several years, often having to switch between a number of venues because of weather conditions, but hope they may have now found the solution to their problems.

The Reds had been due to train at Blackburn RUFC’s Ramsgreave Drive ground from the start of December but were only able to move there for the first time last week because of the bad weather, which has since returned – putting Accrington’s Crown Ground fixture against Crewe on Boxing Day in doubt.

“We are seeing it as a sort of trial to see how it goes and then we'll look to sit down in January with them and sort out a deal,” said chief executive Rob Heys, with Stanley set to hire out the venue.

“But it is encouraging and it will be great to have a second base, which is what we need.”

Stanley midfielder Luke Joyce was pleased with the prospect of a permanent home for training.

“The pitch is more suited to rugby at the moment but I’m sure work will be done on that,” he said.

“It’s good to have somewhere to have meetings now rather than having to go back to the ground and have them in the dressing room.

"It is good as well to be able to eat together, things like that, with the banter it is nice.”
