BLACKBURN Rovers caretaker boss Steve Kean insists ‘I am nobody’s yes man’ after stating his desire to play a part in the club’s future.

Kean’s promotion from first team coach and his links with the club’s new owners’ advisers SEM have led to fears he could be used as a mouth piece for the agency.

The Scot was quick to rubbish these claims and, hoping to discuss the Rao family’s vision for the future with them soon, insists he believes he can play an active role in helping them achieve their ambitions.

He said: “Anybody who knows me knows I wouldn’t just roll over and do what people say.

"With the years of experience I have, I would hope that I would be respected and be able to shape the things to come.

“Hopefully I can put that across to the owners. If I get the scope to give ideas and direction, I would encourage that.

“First and foremost we need to know what the budget is for January.

"Hopefully I can give input because I know the lads we’ve got in the squad. I know the ones we’ve got coming through.

“I’ve been working with them very closely and we know the academy group under that.

"I know everybody at the club."

Kean admits he has no idea how long he will have as Rovers’ caretaker boss or whether or not he is being considered for the permanent role.

He hopes to have more detailed talks in the coming weeks but, after Saturday’s 1-1 draw with West Ham, insists the priority remains winning games.

He said: “I’ve not had any detailed chats with the owners.

"I spoke to the chairperson yesterday and she just passed on her best wishes to the lads.

"Hopefully I will have more conversations and we can put plans in place.

“Hopefully they can see we’re trying to win games.

"The lads are together, there’s a good spirit and hopefully we can put some plans in place for the rest of the season.

“The period of games over the Christmas period, I’m very confident we will get good points on the table.”

All eyes will be on Rovers ahead of the opening of the January transfer window, with the club’s Indian owners suggesting they will make £5m available to spend on new players.

Several names are already being talked about being Rovers targets including the inevitable link with Cardiff City striker Michael Chopra, whose paternal grandparents are Indian.

When asked though whether Rovers’ January business would be hampered by his temporary situation, Kean believed it would not pose a problem.

He said: “Possibly, but what we would try and put across to them is that they would be signing for a really good club.

“I’m in charge of the team at the moment and hopefully that will continue for a long time.

"If it doesn’t, they are still signing for a club which I feel is entering an exciting period.

“I don’t think the owners have bought the club just to maintain it where it is.

"I think they want to take it forward. With investment, they will want to take it up the league.”

And Kean does not foresee a problem over his links to SEM.

He said: “I’ve been with SEM long before I was at Blackburn.

"They’re a worldwide organisation that have got lots of top sportsmen and top managers, Owen Coyle being one and Tony Pulis.

“I’ve been connected with SEM and it’s something I’m proud of and glad that they're happy to look after me.

"I don’t see that as anything other than positive and good for the rest of my career.”
