Warton Stock Car Club’s 2010 Championship came to a close last Sunday with the final meeting of the season, the Grange Cup, deciding the outcome of a closely fought series.

Pre-event favourite Stephen Hogarth soon scored the 10 points he needed to clinch the title leaving Ian Barton to settle for the runners-up spot.

Most eyes though were on the battle for third place where Steve Fawcett looked a comfortable podium finisher.

That was before Accrington’s Glenn Lord, ‘Lordy’ to his fans, launched a late challenge with a string of top results in the four meetings prior to the season finale.

Starting the Grange Cup meeting just nine points in arrears, Lord was on target to wrestle the final podium place from his rival in the final race of the day.

Lord’s dreams were shattered when ignition switch failure halted his attack gifting Fawcett third championship place without a final fight.

Looking back Lord still regards his season as being successful stating: “I took home 10 trophies during the year, won a feature final and will be presented with the Marine Services Cup at the presentation Gala later in the year.”
