ACCRINGTON Stanley boss John Coleman admitted he had never been involved in a game quite like Saturday’s incredible 7-4 home win against Gillingham – and he does not want to see it happen again.

Stanley came out on top in an 11-goal thriller at the Crown Ground to climb back to sixth in League Two.

Before the game only four sides in the division had scored less than the Reds this season, but now only four have scored more.

“It was funny because one of the supporters turned round to me when it was 6-3,” said Coleman.

“He said, ‘What do you think will happen?’ and I said, ‘If we get another goal we might get a draw out of it’.”

The Reds boss added: “During the second half I was a bit deflated because I saw some horrific defending.

“We could have scored 10, but we could have conceded eight.

“The game got far too open but at least it will bring the crowds back. They’ve been entertained. And Terry Gornell was absolutely magnificent.

“But it got to the point in the second half where I just decided to sit back and watch it.

“The lads were getting caught up in the hurly-burly of it and it was pointless trying to shout on to them because they were going to get confused.

“I have never been involved in a game like that before, and I wouldn’t want too many more either.

“Having said that, I’d take 7-4 every week if I know you’re going to win!”

Stanley assistant boss Jimmy Bell was sent from the touchline after his involvement in a fracas and is now set to face an FA charge.

“Their number eight Bentley ran at Jimmy Ryan and with a clenched fist I’ve jumped in to intervene,” said Bell.

“I’ve seen the video and all I’ve done is blocked Bentley from getting to Jimmy Ryan in our technical area.

“The fourth official has said I didn’t throw a punch but I used too much force.

“The referee is putting a report in and as it stands now it will be before the FA.”
