ACCRINGTON Stanley’s bid to sign Nigerian striker Alex Akande before today’s 6pm transfer deadline hangs in the balance because of red tape.

The 21-year-old impressed Reds’ boss John Coleman during a trial earlier this month, in which he played against Preston North End.

But the young striker had to return to his home in Hong Kong, and Stanley are not sure if he will be allowed back to sign for them on a permanent basis.

The club are seeking a work permit for Akande and international clearance, but it is unclear whether they will be successful in time.

“We found out about him through his agent and invited him over,” said assistant manager Jimmy Bell.

“He did really well against Preston reserves, but we don’t know if we’ll be able to sign him.”
