JASON Roberts believes he can leave Ewood Park with his head held high after admitting his Blackburn Rovers career is almost certainly over.

The powerful striker was left out of Rovers’ double-header in Scotland at the weekend and has now revealed he has come to a ‘mutual decision’ with the club it would be best for all concerned for him to leave.

While Rovers are yet to receive any official bids for him, the likes of Premier League rivals West Bromwich Albion, Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers and teams from abroad are understood to be sniffing.

Rovers boss Sam Allardyce has already admitted the striker is ‘available’ if the right offer comes in and now Roberts himself has confirmed he expects to depart Ewood in the coming weeks.

In an exclusive interview with the Lancashire Telegraph, Roberts said: “It looks like I will be leaving the club.

"We have had discussions and mutually agreed it is time to move on.

“It was decided that I wouldn’t be travelling with the team to Scotland and haven’t been involved in the last few games now.

“I have no pre conceived ideas about what will happen next and it would be wrong to talk about anything until there is something officially happening.

“Like I said all I can say is we have reached a mutual decision where if there is a chance for me to move on then we would like to take that up. We will have to wait and see what happens.”

Roberts arrived at Rovers from Wigan in July 2006 and has scored 22 goals in his 116 appearances, 51 of which though have come from the substitutes bench.

Last season he scored five goals in 15 Premier League starts and insists he is ‘comfortable’ with his Rovers contribution over the years.

“From my point of view I have had some good years here,” he said.

“I have been part of some very good teams and am very comfortable with what I have done here.

“I scored five league goals last season and kept a £6million striker out of the team.

"There is a perception that I didn’t have a good season last season but I am very comfortable with what I did.

“I scored five league goals in 15 starts and think I scored more league goals than all the other strikers put together.

"I did that playing on my own up front and so I’m not sure that perception is right.”

Roberts’ departure would free up some funds for Sam Allardyce as he continues to wheel and deal in the transfer market ahead of Saturday’s Premier League opener against Everton.

His absence from the weekend’s games against Celtic and Hearts led some to suggest to a bust-up but Rovers insists everything is still amicable at the club.

He said: “If the manager wants to go in a different direction, which it seems he does, then I comfortable with that.

"I still feel I have a lot of good years left in me so we will just see what will happen.

“There is no problem as such, we have just come to a mutual decision.

"If there is the chance to move me on then the manager has said he would like to and I also feel it is maybe time to move on.

“You never know what will happen. There is nothing official to say at the moment so we will wait and see.

"But like I said I am comfortable with the situation.”
