HONEST Chris Holt admits his Read men were guilty of taking games for granted when they briefly went to the top of the Ribblesdale League – but he says those mistakes now they have had a second bite of the cherry.

Read shot up to second after a remarkable series of results last weekend and Holt is delighted with that given a wobble as soon as they hit the summit.

“I thought we had blown it to be honest,” said Holt. “We went to the top after beating Baxenden and then lost the next three games and I thought that was that.

“But a couple of lads in the team said there would be more twists and turns and we had that last weekend.

“We finished quite early last week and we were sat in the pavilion hearing bits and pieces from the other games – and we couldn’t believe it when the results went our way.

“Now we have to make sure we keep up the good work and we can’t afford to get complacent.

“I think we were possibly guilty of not showing respect earlier in the season – we won’t do that again.”

Read are on the road to second from bottom Great Harwood tomorrow but Holt is expecting a tough battle against a good side.

“They are not a second from bottom side,” he said. “They have some good players and you have to be right on your game to beat Harwood.

“When you look around the league you realise that any team can beat anyone else.

"The league is competitive this year and I think there are many more twists and turns to come.

“In the next few weeks we play three of the bottom four and two of the top four – so we will have a real chance to make an impression.”
