Former Burnley boss Steve Cotterill, who recently took over as manager of Portsmouth, has distanced himself from reports linking him with a move for Steven Caldwell.
Cotterill signed Caldwell for the Clarets and the Scot is now looking for a new club after being released by Burnley at the end of the season.
“That link was very interesting because I have not spoken to anybody about him,” said Cotterill, who is hoping to persuade former Clarets loanee David Nugent to remain at Fratton Park.
“I don't know where that has come from. At the moment I'm looking around at players to bring into the club.”
Another player to leave Turf Moor this summer, Robbie Blake, continues to be linked with a move to SPL side Hearts.
It remains to be seen whether Bolton’s signing of Bulgarian winger Martin Petrov yesterday will lead to a cooling in their interest in Wade Elliott.
