PROUD Ciaran Williams has guided Great Britain handball to their first ever win on home soil.
The GB captain led by example in the historic 33-32 win over Bulgaria in the final Euro 2012 qualifier.
The former Haslingden High School pupil scored one and created plenty of chances for team-mates in the last-gasp win at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre in London.
“I’m massively proud, it’s almost too hard to put into words,” said Williams (right) whose team won thanks to Steven Larsson’s winner two seconds from time. “It’s been a long time coming since I joined the programme at the start four years ago.”
The former Haslingden Handball Club member added: “To get our first win in front of family, friends and supporters means so much, and I’m so happy to have done this for the fans just as much as for the team.”
The GB team failed to reach the Euro finals but the victory has shown how much they have improved.
