ACCRINGTON will not be able to pay transfer fees for players this summer – even if they receive the funds from Bobby Grant’s transfer to Scunthorpe before August 31.
Stanley are demanding £250,000 for the 19-year-old, with the fee expected to be determined by a tribunal and the Reds have pledged to give every penny back to boss John Coleman to invest in the squad, although that money may not be available until after the transfer window shuts on August 31 with tribunals often taking some time to take place.
But, even if the funds come through quickly, Stanley assistant manager Jimmy Bell says the club will be restricted to free transfers.
“They will all be frees,” said Bell.“The money will go into the budget, it won’t go on transfer fees.
"We’re speaking to one or two players and their agents at the moment.
“But we seem to get the dregs because of the wages we can afford to pay.
"People go round the clubs and if they can’t get somewhere else they come back to us.”
